JOB DESCRIPTION Clinical Laboratory Scientist
Job
Summary (Purpose the Position Exists): Performs and
demonstrates proficiency and understanding in one or more areas of the clinical
laboratory, assists in instructing other personnel as assigned, and performs
with a perceptive depth of clinical laboratory tests and procedures which
require the exercise of independent judgement and responsibility. To assure
that the highest degree of quality patient care is maintained at all times.
This employee should be able to demonstrate skill and accuracy in obtaining
specimens for all age groups serviced, from neonate to geriatric patients; show
competence in performing testing procedures; effectively use laboratory
equipment; use judgement in reporting laboratory data for all age groups
serviced (as above); perform and evaluate the quality control program; maintain
effective relationships with other personnel throughout the hospital; develop
laboratory training program; control supply usage; participate in continuing
education programs and related professional activities; perform any duties and
functions necessary to the efficient and quality operation of the laboratory;
be responsible for orientation of all new employees; assume responsibility for
quality of work performed while on duty.
Education,
Training and Licenses Required: Graduate of an
accredited medical technology program and a B.S. in biological, chemical or
medical sciences, with 1 year internship in Medical Laboratory Technology.
Licensed by California Dept. of Health, Lab Field Services as CLS. BLS
required.
Experience
Required: General 2 year clinical laboratory experience
preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Required: Certain level of retention. Command of
English language, Computer skills, Phlebotomy. Perform moderate high complexity
testing. Good people skills.
Equipment
Knowledge Required: Computer. Laboratory equipment.
Working
Conditions (Noise, Environmental, Demands, Shift, Setting, Human Interface,
etc.): Inside – Worker spends approximately 100% of time inside.
Inside work has good ventilation and usually comfortable temperatures. Employee
must understand that we operate 24/7 and they may be called on to adjust
schedule according to the needs of the lab. Exposure to biohazard agents.

information regarding hospital, patient, and employment matters are disclosed
or learned by me in confidence. I agree
that during and after my term of employment, I will not directly or indirectly
disclose this information, other than to an authorized employee of Palm Drive
Hospital.

Requirements: Employees are responsible for all
aspects of the hospital safety and health program including compliance with
safety rules and regulations, remedying unsafe working conditions, and for
continuously practicing safety while performing duties.

competence as a supervisor, including but not limited to communication skills,
