JOB DESCRIPTION   Controller

 

Job Summary (Purpose the Position Exists): The controller is responsible for directing accounting services to meet the needs of the CFO, other hospital senior management, outside financial oversight (independent auditor), outside regulators, and financial partners (banks, bond-holders, County, etc.). Controller is responsible for the operations of the Accounting and Accounts Payable departments. He / she also works with department managers to provide necessary information to assist in enhancing revenue and controlling expenses including budget preparation and monthly Budget to Actual reports. Controller provides management with various reports on a daily, weekly, and / or monthly basis. Controller manages bank accounts.

 

Education, Training and Licenses Required: Bachelor of Science in Accounting required. CPA preferred.

 

 

Experience Required: At least 5 years of financial experience. Hospital or health care experience preferred.

       

        

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Required: Proficiency with windows-based computer and hospital accounting systems such as HBOC/McKesson. Ability to handle a fast paced environment with short deadlines. Willingness to take on more responsibility over time. Detail oriented and strong communication skills.

 

 

Equipment Knowledge Required: Computer, office equipment.

 

 

Working Conditions (Noise, Environmental, Demands, Shift, Setting, Human Interface, etc.): Day shift, Monday through Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm.

Supervisory Requirements (if applicable): This position supervises a staff of   2  , including part time employees.  I understand I will be reviewed on my competence as a supervisor, including but not limited to communication skills, delegation of tasks, prioritization of work, leadership, problem solving, budgeting and reviewing of my staff's performance.

 

1. Oversees update of daily Cash Management.

2. Maintains Cash Forecasting schedules.

3. Prepares Operating Budgets.

4. Budget Variance Analysis.

5. Financial Projections.

6. Works with CFO in developing and evaluating hospital business plan.

7. Monitors Hospital’s fiscal performance in realizing established plans.

8. Directs the preparation of monthly financial reports and assures the reports reliably reflect the financial position of the hospital.

9. Supportive role, with CFO, in reducing hospital operating costs and increasing revenues.

10. Maintains accounting internal control and other business office systems and procedures assuring uniform and correct internal reporting.

11. Directs work of accounting staff.

12. Completes duties as required by the CFO.
